Chiefs: 20 - Lions: 21
The Detroit Lions barely beat the Kansas City Chiefs with a final score of 21 to 20. Lions' quarterback Jared Goff had a solid performance, throwing for 253 yards and 1 touchdown, with Amon-Ra St. Brown making 6 catches for 71 receiving yards and 1 touchdown reception. David Montgomery contributed to the Lions' offensive efforts with 74 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. On the Chiefs' side, Patrick Mahomes managed 226 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception, along with 45 rushing yards. However, Kadarius Toney's dropped passes proved costly for the Chiefs. Despite giving Mahomes good field position at the end of the game, the Lions managed to hold on for the win.
Falcons: 24 - Panthers: 10
The Atlanta Falcons secured a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers in a closely-contested matchup. Panthers’ rookie quarterback Bryce Young made his NFL debut, passing for 146 yards and throwing one touchdown pass but also recording two interceptions. Miles Sanders contributed with 72 rushing yards, while Tyler Allgeier had a standout performance with 75 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Falcons’ running back Bijan Robinson, also making his NFL debut, ran for 56 yards and caught six passes for 27 receiving yards, including a receiving touchdown. The game remained tight throughout, but the Falcons pulled away in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Browns: 24 - Bengals: 3
In a dominant performance, the Cleveland Browns convincingly defeated the Cincinnati Bengals with a final score of 24-3. Deshaun Watson led the Browns' offense, passing for 154 yards and contributing two total touchdowns, albeit with one interception. Nick Chubb shined with 106 rushing yards on 18 carries. On the other side, Joe Burrow struggled, completing just 14 of 31 passes for a mere 82 yards, as the Bengals' offense struggled to find its rhythm throughout the game. The Browns' defense proved to be a formidable force, led by Myles Garrett, who recorded one sack, one tackle for loss, and four QB hits. Despite this loss, I expect the Bengals to bounce back in the upcoming week's matchup against the Ravens.
Colts: 21 - Jaguars: 31
In an impressive start to the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars secured a 31-21 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars' offense was the highlight of the game, with quarterback Trevor Lawrence leading the charge by throwing for 241 yards, including two touchdowns. Calvin Ridley's return to action after two years was nothing short of spectacular, as he hauled in eight catches for 101 yards and one touchdown. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. added to the offensive firepower with 77 rushing yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side, Josh Allen made a significant impact by sacking the quarterback three times. The Colts, meanwhile, had a strong performance from Anthony Richardson, who threw for 223 yards with two total touchdowns and one interception. Michael Pittman also contributed with eight catches for 97 yards and one touchdown. The Jaguars' dynamic offense and impressive defensive play by Josh Allen made this a memorable game for Jacksonville.
Vikings: 17 - Buccaneers: 20
In a closely contested matchup, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers narrowly emerged victorious over the Minnesota Vikings with a final score of 20-17. The Buccaneers' win was largely attributed to their stout defense, which managed to hold the Vikings in check. Baker Mayfield contributed with 173 passing yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Mike Evans for a touchdown and 66 receiving yards. On the other side, Kirk Cousins had a productive day, passing for 344 yards and two touchdowns, but his three total turnovers proved costly for the Vikings. It was evident that if Cousins had managed to limit his turnovers, the Vikings had a strong chance of winning. Although the Vikings lost, Justin Jefferson had an outstanding game bringing in nine catches for an impressive 150 yards. The Buccaneers' success hinged on their defensive performance, and if they can maintain this level of play, they could be strong contenders for the NFC South championship.
Saints: 16 - Titans: 15
In a closely contested defensive battle, the New Orleans Saints narrowly defeated the Tennessee Titans with a final score of 16-15. Both teams showcased exceptional defensive performances throughout the game, with the Saints' defense particularly impressive as they limited Derrick Henry to just 63 rushing yards and prevented the Titans from scoring a single touchdown. On the Titans' side, Ryan Tannehill had a challenging outing, throwing three interceptions, which may put him under scrutiny by Titans fans. These fans could call for Will Levis to take over as the starting quarterback pretty soon if this keeps up. Despite the good defense, Derek Carr managed to pass for 305 yards and one touchdown, with Chris Olave leading all receivers with 8 catches for 112 receiving yards. Both kickers also delivered exceptional performances, with Nick Folk going 5/5 on field goals for the Titans and Blake Grupe going 3/3 on field goals for the Saints, ensuring that no kicks or extra points were missed in this tightly contested matchup
Steelers: 7 - 49ers: 30
The San Francisco 49ers controlled the game from start to finish, securing a convincing 30-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The only shining moment for the Steelers came from T.J. Watt, who had a standout performance with three sacks and a fumble recovery. However, the Steelers' quarterback Kenny Pickett struggled against the formidable 49ers defense, which sacked him five times and intercepted him twice. The 49ers' defense was exceptional in this matchup. On the offensive side, Christian McCaffrey was a force to be reckoned with, rushing for 152 yards and scoring one touchdown, while Brandon Aiyuk hauled in eight catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Brock Purdy contributed with 220 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an impressive 91.3 QBR, solidifying the 49ers' dominant performance in this game.
Commanders: 20 - Cardinals: 16
The Washington Commanders secured a 20-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Prior to the game, there was speculation that the Cardinals were deliberately making roster moves to secure the first overall pick in next year's draft, but they defied expectations by keeping the game close. They even the fourth quarter. However, the Commanders' defense held the Cardinals scoreless in the final quarter, ultimately sealing the win. Commanders’ Quarterback Sam Howell had a modest performance with 202 passing yards, one touchdown, and two turnovers. Brian Robinson Jr. also contributed 59 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown for Washington. Despite the win, it was not a particularly aesthetically pleasing game, and it's possible that both teams may find themselves near the bottom of the standings as the season progresses.
Ravens: 25 - Texans: 9
In a game that remained tightly contested in the first half, the Baltimore Ravens eventually found their stride and dominated the Houston Texans in the second half, securing a 25-9 victory. Lamar Jackson, who hadn't played in the preseason, displayed some rustiness as he managed 169 passing yards and 38 rushing yards but also had two turnovers. On the bright side, rookie Zay Flowers had an impressive NFL debut, making nine catches for 78 yards. Justice Hill was a key contributor for the Ravens, scoring two rushing touchdowns that proved crucial in sealing the win. However, for the Texans, C.J. Stroud's NFL debut didn't go as planned, as he threw for 242 yards and was sacked five times. Looking ahead, the Ravens will need to shake off this rust and prepare for a crucial divisional matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
Broncos: 16 - Raiders: 17
The Las Vegas Raiders narrowly edged out the Denver Broncos with a final score of 17-16. Sean Payton made his debut as the Broncos head coach, aiming to turn the franchise around after a challenging previous season. Russell Wilson showcased his efficiency in the passing game for Denver, amassing 177 yards and throwing two touchdowns. On the Raiders' side, Jimmy Garoppolo had a solid performance, completing 20 of 26 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns, although he did have one interception. Notably, the Raiders' offensive line did an excellent job protecting Garoppolo, not allowing a single sack. However, both teams struggled to establish a strong running game. Jakobi Meyers was a standout receiver, catching both of Garoppolo's touchdowns and finishing with nine receptions for 81 yards, contributing significantly to the Raiders' victory.
Chargers: 34 - Dolphins: 36
In what proved to be one of the most thrilling matchups on the Sunday slate, the Miami Dolphins beat the Los Angeles Chargers in a high-scoring affair with a final score of 36-34. The game showcased two potent offenses battling down to the wire. One significant preseason concern was whether Tua Tagovailoa could remain healthy, but in this game, his offensive line provided stellar protection, allowing zero sacks. Tagovailoa himself had a remarkable performance, amassing 466 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Tyreek Hill was a standout with 11 receptions for an impressive 215 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaylen Waddle contributed with four catches for 78 yards. On the Chargers' side, Justin Herbert threw for 229 yards and accounted for two total touchdowns, and Austin Ekeler rushed for 117 yards and one touchdown. If the Dolphins' offense continues to perform at this level, they certainly have a strong chance of competing for the AFC East title and potentially even being one of the top teams in their conference.
Seahawks: 13 - Rams: 30
In a surprising turn of events, the Los Angeles Rams dominated the Seattle Seahawks with a convincing 30-13 victory. The big pre-game news centered on Cooper Kupp's placement on Injured Reserve, raising questions about the Rams' success this season. Despite Kupp's absence, Matthew Stafford had an impressive performance, throwing for 334 passing yards. Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua stepped up in Kupp's absence, each amassing 119 receiving yards. Kyren Williams added to the Rams' success with 52 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. The Rams' strong showing was a stark contrast to their challenging season the previous year, and they outperformed expectations, particularly in the second half, against a Seattle team that was favored to win. The Seahawks offense struggled in the game and will likely need to reevaluate their strategy after a lopsided loss.
Bears: 20 - Packers: 38
The Green Bay Packers ushered in the post-Aaron Rodgers era with a convincing 38-20 victory over their longtime rival, the Chicago Bears. Jordan Love, stepping into the starting quarterback role, had an impressive debut with 245 passing yards and three touchdowns. The Bears' defense struggled to contain Aaron Jones, who had 41 rushing yards, 86 receiving yards, and two total touchdowns for the Packers. Unfortunately, the Bears' offense disappointed their fans with a lackluster gameplan that didn't involve pushing the ball downfield, and their offensive line couldn't withstand the Packers' pass rush, limiting Justin Fields' options in the pocket. Fields put up 216 passing yards, 59 rushing yards, and 1 touchdown but also had 2 turnovers. The Packers' victory positions them as strong contenders for the NFC North championship once again, following an unusual 2022 regular season.
Patriots: 20 - Eagles: 25
The Philadelphia Eagles faced the New England Patriots in a rainy matchup on Sunday. The Eagles, with aspirations of returning to the Super Bowl, got off to a commanding start, taking a 16-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Patriots mounted a comeback and narrowed the gap to 16-14 by halftime. The Eagles defense stepped up in the second half, allowing only 6 points from the Patriots in the third and fourth quarters, securing a 25-20 victory. Jalen Hurts contributed with 170 passing yards, 54 rushing yards, and one touchdown, connecting with DeVonta Smith for seven catches and 47 yards, including 1 touchdown. On the other side, Mac Jones had an impressive performance with 316 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and one interception, while Rhamondre Stevenson added 25 rushing yards and 64 receiving yards for the Patriots. Despite the loss, the Patriots demonstrated that they will be a tough team to contend with as the season progresses.
Giants: 0 - Cowboys: 40
The Dallas Cowboys left no room for doubt as they delivered an absolute display of dominance, shutting out the New York Giants with a resounding 40-0 victory. The Cowboys' defense made a strong statement from the get-go, showcasing their prowess by sacking the Giants' quarterback an impressive 7 times and forcing 3 turnovers. Rookie Micah Parsons demonstrated exceptional athleticism while pressuring Daniel Jones and securing 1 sack. Notably, the Cowboys' defense and special teams combined to contribute two touchdowns to the blowout win. On the offensive side, Tony Pollard had a standout performance with 70 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, while CeeDee Lamb made an impact with 4 catches for 77 receiving yards. As they head into Week 2, the Cowboys will look to carry this momentum forward, while the Giants will undoubtedly want to erase this game from memory and regroup.
Jets: 22 - Bills: 16
In a Monday Night Football game that took fans on a roller coaster of emotions, the New York Jets faced high expectations with the arrival of superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, the excitement was short-lived as Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury in his first drive of the game, ruling him out not just for the game but for the entire season. Despite this setback, the Jets managed to keep the game close, thanks largely to their defense, which forced Josh Allen to commit four turnovers, with Jordan Whitehead making three interceptions. The game ultimately ended in overtime with the Jets securing a victory through a punt return touchdown by Xavier Gipson. On the Bills' side, Josh Allen amassed 236 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 4 turnovers, while Stefon Diggs had an impressive performance with 10 receptions for 102 yards and 1 touchdown. Bills will need to regroup and manage the ball better in next week’s matchup versus the Las Vegas Raiders.
